The Pallet LOOP features as a case study in the latest Construction Leadership Council (CLC) CO2nstruct Zero (CZ) report – which was published at an event in Westminster yesterday morning, hosted by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The 4th CZ report shows CZ’s progress since it launched at COP26 last year, recognising the many innovative initiatives that are helping to improve sustainability across the sector.

CO2nstruct Zero is the construction industry’s zero carbon change programme. Aligned with the Government’s overarching plan to deliver net zero by 2050, the programme has nine priorities including:

  • Optimising the use of modern methods of construction and improving onsite logistics to reduce waste and transport to sites
  • Becoming world leaders in designing out carbon, developing the capability of our designers and construction professionals to design in line with a circular economy – shifting commercial models to reward measurable carbon reductions
  • Supporting the development of innovative low carbon materials and advancing low carbon solutions for manufacturing production processes and distribution.

The CO2nstruct Zero network has grown rapidly over the last twelve months, with more than 200 organisations – including The Pallet LOOP – now established as CO2nstruct Zero Business Champions and Partners.

Nathan Wride, Head of Partnerships & Innovation at The Pallet LOOP, said: “We are incredibly proud to feature in the CLC’s latest report and be highlighted as one of the countless changes being made across UK construction to create a lower carbon future. The last year has been non-stop for our team. Since becoming a CO2nstructZero Business Champion, we’ve been working tirelessly with some of the biggest names in UK construction – encouraging the adoption of our circular economy pallet distribution model. When they hit the sector next year, our green pallets will shift the industry away from the linear practice of distributing and discarding pallets, to recovering, repairing and reusing them. The impact of this one small behaviour shift will be huge. As well as helping individual companies achieve their sustainability goals and save money, The Pallet LOOP will also help the UK deliver on its broader net zero carbon target.”
